Character Boats specialise in the building of traditional and classic day sailing craft.
The business was established on the North West coast some thirty years ago and nowadays operates from workshops in Lytham - St Annes, near Blackpool, Lancashire. It has established an excellent reputation for building seaworthy shallow draft craft of sound construction and good sailing performance.
Derived from historically well proven designs from the last days of working sail, the entire range owe their origins to working boats of the North West and Scottish coastlines and display clear evidence of their pedigree. Produced today using modern materials, the fit-out of the craft has been upgraded for leisure use. Changes include extra locker space, upgraded deck and rig equipment of traditional design. Micro-porous wood stains produce a traditional finish which eliminate the endless chore of varnishing.
Extensive use of selected hardwoods combined with fibreglass hulls produce authentic boats which retain all the charm of the traditional working boats and the well tried performance of the original craft. The finished product is a craft which is pleasing to the eye and yet requires minimal maintenance, well suited to meet the needs of the modern sailor.
The company employ a small but experienced workforce. Each craft is built and fitted out to individual requirements from standard designs at competitive prices.
Throughout the production process they maintain high standards of craftmanship associated with traditional boat building.
Character Boats attract great attention wherever they are sailed and are appreciated by owners who want something distinctive and different from mass produced craft.
The business has built up an excellent reputation for customer service and after sales support.
As well as building new craft, Character Boats can also offer selected models as fully built hulls with woodwork and rigging kits for home completion by competent builders.
