Character Boats is a specialist boat building business with a small dedicated, technically qualified and highly experienced workforce.

Our directors also control a trade moulding business were we have in house design and mould making facilites and  produce hulls for other boatbuilders to complete.. Our staff have worked on round the world ocean racers,  large multihuls as well as traditional boats and we can work in epoxy, carbon fibre and vinylesters as well as the general polyester mouldings used in our range of traditional craft.

The Charcater Boats traditional craft have hand laid glassfibre hulls and decks using top quality materials and suitably reinforced in high stress areas.

Gunwales are in hardwoods and bent to shape and fitted to form an integral part of the structure in the traditional manner and are not just cosmetic appendages as with many of todays mass produced craft.  Spars are hand craft from carefully selected timbers and laminated to give strength with light weight. Our craft are carefully rigged and properly set up before leaving the works. This attention to details becoms apparent as soon as you take the helm and enjoy the feel of a responsive and properly tuned sailing boat.

We believe that having your own craft built should be an interesting and enjoyable experience. Advise and guidance is given freely and we take pride in ensuring that your chosen craft matches your requirements and intended use.  Clients interested in Character Boats range of craft are encouraged to study the range and brochures and having homed in on particular craft they are encouraged , by appointment, to take a trial sail at our demonstration site in the Lake District and tthen take the opportunity to discuss a specification for their own craft against which we will be pleased to give a written firm price quotation. For thoes interested in placing an order this can be followed up by a visit to our workshops to see craft under construction.

Upon completion of build each craft is individually rigged before leaving our workshops to ensure that everything is correctly set up.

Each craft is supplied with a detailed owners manual with technical data , instructions on rigging and advise for care and usage of the craft.

If required we are always pleased to spend a day with the client upon taking delivery of their new craft, at our demonstration site in the Lake District, going through the rigging, launching and recovery to trailer and generally to familiarise the owner with their new craft.
